Every residential project is an opportunity to share our passion for design and educate our clients about how it affects everyday life. A well-designed living space can put you instantly at ease, provide a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle, and bring loved ones together in delight and laughter.

Our residential design process is an easy-to-follow, eight-step journey that starts and ends with your design goals. This approach ensures that you receive a comprehensive, in-depth service, so we can work with you to create a living space you love.

  • This is one of our most important design steps, and when you first meet the Emerge team. Based on your project needs, we will ask curated questions and may even assign some homework too. The Discovery stage helps us begin building a foundation for your project goals.

  • We’ll provide a digital mood board built from our Discovery meeting that illustrates your project concept. This board mainly speaks to the overall style of your project. It may include an inspiration picture along with some curated fixtures, finishes and materials. We refer to this board throughout the remaining stages of your project.

  • Whether your project is a new build or renovation, we love to provide space planning feedback. We’ll only adjust the spaces in relation to your design and provide an inclusive experience with both you and the architect. We tend to keep it loose at this stage with sketches and doodles to communicate the over-arcing concept. However, we can provide a full scale space plan if that’s your preference.

  • Your project will have a schedule for our interior design services. We will track and update your schedule weekly/bi-weekly and/or monthly, depending on your project scope. The schedule will have milestones for you to accomplish which will help us stay on track.

  • We like to think of renderings as the most exciting part for our clients. We bring the design to life in a 3D program called Sketchup. We build out each space discussed in our scope, with walls, windows, doors, millwork, materials, lighting, furniture, texture, pattern, and finishes. We love sharing the initial design at the office to discuss details, show you samples, and present ideas. Revisions to the model are done as needed until you’re completely happy.

  • Once renderings are finalized, we start drafting. These are the 2D drawings that allow millwork, flooring, and tile to be quoted on properly. We also call out locations of plumbing, light fixtures and finishes for the trades to install correctly.

    Both the rendering and drafting is a large part of the scope in time and services but are well worth it.

  • Specifications include all finishes such as plumbing, lighting, millwork, interior kitchen components, wallpaper, flooring, tile, fireplaces, hardware, interior doors, and upholstery. We start building specifications during the rendering process, and will include costs to help you finalize your selections.

    We provide you a with your specs in a digital format that yourself, Emerge and your contractor all have access to. We also provide a hard copy for the job site which makes the trades lives easier and helps to keep the project rolling.

  • In person and/or virtual meetings include client, internal, trade and onsite meetings. This includes a mandatory handoff meeting with you, the contractor and Emerge once design services reach 90% completion.

    Key site visits include but are not limited to:

    • electrical rough-ins

    • plumbing rough-ins

    • framing inspection prior to drywall

    • flooring and tile layout

    • millwork inspection
